[Finale] Reacher Season 3, Episode 8 Recap: Reacher Season 3’s exciting finale has come, putting Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) face-to-face with his most dangerous enemy yet. As the smoke clears, bodies fall, friendships are put to the test, and Reacher walks away again, leaving both chaos and justice behind. Based on Lee Child’s book Persuader, the end of this season is a never-ending storm of betrayals, brutal fights, and long-awaited vengeance. To sum up what happened in the last show, Unfinished Business, here it is.
THE FINAL STAND: A DEADLY AMBUSH
At the beginning of the show, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and his team (Beck, Duffy, and Villanueva) are working with federal agents to bring down the criminal empire of Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee). They are getting ready to stop a load of illegal goods at a local import site—where they know Quinn will be waiting for them. But something doesn’t seem right. Reacher realizes she’s following the Wrong Truck while talking on the phone with his trusted friend Francis Neagley (Maria Sten). The truck she’s following is going toward Beck’s house, where his son Richard’s birthday party is happening. The team knows right away that they’ve been set up.
There is chaos. Reacher and his team are surprised by Quinn’s men, which leads to a fierce gunfight. As the mission turns into a frantic race to stay alive, bullets fly and bodies fall. Reacher and his team are able to get away from the first attack and take over the truck, holding the driver at gunpoint to get them inside. Quinn’s monster bodyguard, Paulie (Olivier Richters), however, knows right away that something is wrong.
REACHER VS. PAULIE: A BRUTAL CLASH
While the rest of the team breaks into the house, Reacher turns on Paulie and starts a brutal fight. Both of them are huge, and they fight in the barn. Paulie almost buryes Reacher alive under a stack of hay bales. Reacher won’t go down, though. He gets away and takes the fight outside, where both guys jump into the water.
They are fighting for power underwater, and each is trying to drown the other. Paulie seems to die when he takes a big gulp of water and falls to the bottom of the ocean. Reacher isn’t sure though. On his way back to the house, Paulie comes out again, this time as a force that won’t die. The final fight happens quickly but kills. Reacher had already messed with the gun’s barrel when Paulie raised his gun. The bullet hits Paulie again, explodes inside the chamber and kills him right away.
A RACE AGAINST TIME: SAVING TERESA AND BECK’S LAST STAND
Meanwhile, Neagley hides in the house as a party server to keep an eye on Quinn and his Russian friends. Teresa, the missing DEA informant, is offered by Quinn as a perverse gift in an attempt to placate his dangerous guests. After accepting the offer and going upstairs, the Russian leader; who is notorious for his infatuation with red-haired women—finds Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) waiting for him. After a tense standoff, Duffy prevails and saves Teresa just in time.
At the same time, Beck and his son Richard are in a scary fight with Quinn. Richard tries to protect his dad by pulling a gun on Quinn, but it’s not real—he made a copy of it earlier. In front of his son, Quinn makes fun of him, draws his own gun and shoots Beck several times. Richard is unable to do anything but watch his father die because he is so terrified. Reacher and his group charge in—apprehend Quinn and put an end to his reign of terror before Quinn can kill him too.
QUINN’S FATE: REACHER’S FINAL MOVE
While Quinn is being held, Reacher’s team takes him outside, where they find the real Russian mob boss waiting. This is what the mobster wants: Quinn to pay off his bills. Reacher isn’t ready to give up on Quinn, though. He talks the Russians into letting him take care of his “unfinished business” first, but it’s a tough deal.
When Reacher sees Quinn for the last time, he remembers the horrible things that Quinn did years ago. He pulls the gun right away and kills Quinn right there. The long search is finally over.
THE AFTERMATH: WHERE EVERYONE ENDS UP
After everything is over, the team goes their separate ways. Reacher, who is always by himself, is about to tell Duffy that they can’t be more than partners but she says it before he can. Francis Neagley says goodbye to her and Richard Beck, who is now alone, leaves the house with a bag full of cash. He doesn’t know what will happen next.
Reacher rides off into the sunset on his motorcycle at the end of the season, off on an unknown adventure. He leaves behind a trail of justice and damage.
IS PAULIE DEAD?
Paulie was one of Reacher’s toughest opponents yet because he was so big and strong. Since he lived through drowning and came back for more—some might wonder if he could have lived through a gun failure. But this time, Paulie is most likely DEAD for good because the bullet went back into his skull.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BECK FAMILY?
Reacher’s message to Beck was too late. Richard Beck is now alone and has to deal with the—loss of his father. Even though we see him leave with a bag of cash, we don’t know what happened to him. Should he use it to start over, or will he get caught up in the same crime world that killed his father?
QUINN’S SINISTER PLAN FOR TERESA
Teresa, the DEA spy, was held hostage, given drugs, and told she would be given to the Russian Mafia as a “gift.” Until Duffy stepped in, her fate seemed set. She is finally freed and safe by the end of the show.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR REACHER?
Jack Reacher is once again free after Xavier Quinn is killed and another chapter is closed. He likes to move constantly and never stays in one spot for very long. The last image of him riding off conveys the idea that his journey is far from over, regardless of how many fights he engages in.
