Robert Pickton’s Brother: Where is David Pickton Today?

In the documentary series SASHA REID AND THE MIDNIGHT ORDER, viewers follow Dr. Sasha Reid as she investigates the minds of criminals and cracks cases involving a covert organization of women. The show delves into high-profile cases, such as the narrative of David Pickton, the sibling of renowned Canadian serial killer Robert “Willie” Pickton. In “Let the Evidence Lead,” the series’ season finale, the crew attends a memorial march and converses with those engaged in the Pickton inquiry, prompting inquiries regarding the extent to which justice was done.

Early Life and the Pickton Family Farm

David was raised in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, on the family farm. He was born in 1950, one year after his brother Robert. David and Robert were nurtured in a modest, rural setting by their parents, Leonard Francis Pickton and Louise Helene Arnal, who also taught them the day-to-day operations of the pig farm from a young age. The two brothers took over the farm after their parents died in the 1970s, but criticism of their management style was swiftly leveled.

In the 1990s, the Pickton farm gained notoriety, especially after the brothers established the Piggy Palace Good Times Society. The Hells Angels motorcycle gang and other sketchy individuals frequented the wild parties held at this place, which was intended to be a charitable organization dedicated to planning social events. Due to the farm’s notorious reputation for anarchy and debauchery, neighbors frequently complained, and in 1998 an injunction was issued to stop operations.

Allegations and Legal Difficulties

David Pickton’s involvement in illegal activity isn’t just a result of his friendship with Robert. David was allegedly found guilty of sexual assault in 1992 and given a minimum punishment consisting of a C$1,000 fine and 30 days of probation. Even with this conviction and his purported affiliations with the Hells Angels, David was able to escape significant legal consequences.

David came under more scrutiny following Robert’s 2007 arrest on first-degree murder charges. Many conjectured that David must have been aware of the horrific acts taking place on the family property, where both brothers lived and worked, considering that the killings happened there. Suspicions remained, but after extensive investigations, there was no concrete proof connecting David to the killings.

Thirty-three women went missing, and their DNA was found during the farm inquiry. Although not out of the ordinary for a pig farmer, the investigators’ discovery of a pair of shears in David’s chamber raised questions in light of the circumstances. The discovery of two buckets filled with severed female skulls in the farm’s slaughterhouse was even more unsettling.

David’s fingerprints were detected on the lid of the freezer containing the buckets, but no Robert’s prints were found there. Some speculated that David may have been aware of the crimes or perhaps even participated in the body disposal process as a result of this piece of evidence. But David has continuously denied any involvement, and the evidence was considered insufficient to prosecute him.

Life After the Arrests

The families of the victims sued David in a number of legal cases after Robert Pickton was found guilty and sent in jail. In these lawsuits, it was alleged that he had lied to the police about Robert’s attempted murder in 1997. Even though David was not a criminal, the lawsuits attempted to hold him responsible for his possible involvement in the crimes.

David has kept a quiet profile in spite of the court challenges. He saw the extreme absence of basic utilities on a visit to Ghana in 2012, which led him to create a charity there. One of his rare public initiatives in recent years was this endeavor. David explained that his experience of becoming ill after drinking water in Ghana made him aware of the difficulties encountered by the less fortunate and motivated him to help others by volunteering.

When Robert was granted release in February 2024, David made an unusual public appearance. He thought about the continuous nightmare that had been his life ever since his brother’s misdeeds were made public. He likened the feeling to being imprisoned in an endless nightmare. In an interview earlier this year, David described his life as a “never-ending nightmare,” comparing it to being stuck in a “subpar film” that never ends

Where is Robert Pickton’s Brother, David Pickton Now?

David Pickton currently resides a few kilometers from the notorious pig farm on another family-owned land. There have been numerous legal and personal obstacles throughout his life. Despite the fact that Sandra Humeny was employed by him in the 1990s, he separated from her in the 1970s and hasn’t been in touch with her since. His two adult children have mostly turned away from the troubled past of their family.

Linda Louise Wright, David’s older sister, moved away from the family when she was young and is now living in Vancouver with her own family. In contrast to David, Linda was able to avoid the scandal that surrounded her siblings and lead a fairly regular life away from the celebrity that came with the Pickton name.

Following Robert’s demise on May 31, 2024, following his beating by a fellow prisoner, David has mostly avoided the public glare. Regarding his brother’s passing and the ongoing rumors that he was involved in the crimes, he has not commented in public.

In summary
Robert Pickton’s actions have permanently tarnished David Pickton’s life. David is still a contentious character even though he was never found guilty of any crime connected to the killings; many people think he knew more than he ever acknowledged. His life is now spent in solitude, the dark shadow of his past always hanging over him. He’ll probably be haunted by the Pickton farm’s legacy and the atrocities that occurred there for the rest of his life.
