The windswept landscapes of the Shetland Isles are about to be rocked once again as filming for Shetland Season 10 is officially underway. The new season promises a fresh, intense murder mystery that will keep viewers glued to the screen thanks to the return of DI Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) and DI Tosh (Alison O’Donnell). The show goes on without Douglas Henshall’s character Jimmy Perez, and the next episode has new characters and a scary new case.
A FRESH CASE WITH NEW TWISTS
The murder of an old woman is one of the scariest cases the Shetland team has ever been given. As the investigation goes on, dark secrets start to come out of the shadows of the islands that seem to be at peace. DC Sandy Wilson (Steven Robertson), Sgt. Billy McCabe (Lewis Howden), Pathologist Cora McLean (Anne Kidd), and Tosh’s partner Donnie (Angus Miller) are all back to help with the case. They will be joined by some great new guest stars, such as Ellie Haddington (Motherland), Clive Russell (Outlander), Niall MacGregor (Line of Duty), Greg McHugh (Guilt) and Frances Gray (Vera).
A new prosecutor general named Matt Blake, played by Samuel Anderson adds to the mystery. His presence could change how the detectives work together as they look into this scary crime.
A Look Back at Season 9:
Before we start the new season, let’s look back at Season 9. The end of Season 9 was filled with shocking revelations and terrible outcomes. The last season was mostly about the murders of Annie Bett and Anton Bergen, which turned out to be a web of lies, cover-ups, and painful truths.
WHO KILLED ANNIE BETT AND ANTON BERGEN?
Audiences were shocked when they found out that Annie’s sister-in-law, Noreen Stack, had fired the gun. She shot Annie and Bergen because she was trying so hard to protect her husband, Michael Stack, who had done something terrible. Annie was going to tell someone about Michael raping Lisa Friel, so Noreen did something very bad to stop her. She followed Annie, confronted her and in the ensuing struggle, the gun went off, killing her. To cover up the crime, Noreen also murdered Bergen before disposing of the gun.
NOAH’S NIGHTMARE: LIVING WITH HIS MOTHER’S KILLER
Annie’s son, Noah Bett, was living with the person who killed his mother without knowing it. His recurring nightmares of a green-coated figure—a “lizard”—chasing him and his mother were a subconscious attempt to remember what had happened. In a chilling moment, he finally recognized Noreen as the figure in his dreams, leading to her downfall.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER CHARACTERS?
Michael Stack was finally exposed for his crimes and likely faced justice. Ian Bett took his son Noah away to Edinburgh for a fresh start.Tosh, who had her own past trauma, saw her relationship with her friends strained due to the intensity of the investigation.
Professor Euan Rossi went back to London after giving information about Annie’s time with MI5. Lisa Friel and Angus left Shetland to look into the conspiracy in other places. The Harris family, Stefan Jakobson, and Dr. Mohan were all charged with crimes and had to face legal consequences.
WHAT IS NEXT IN SEASON 10?
Ruth Calder and Tosh now have to deal with new problems in Season 10 after the shocking events of Season 9. The killing of an old woman on the Isles gives hints of another deep mystery that is still to be solved. Is there a link between this case and other crimes? Or is it a completely different horror that’s hiding in the fog?
Trouble may happen between Ruth and Tosh as they work together. Ruth is still getting used to being Jimmy Perez’s replacement, so she is more direct and won’t give in. Tosh, on the other hand, is shaped by his past and relies on his intuition and emotional intelligence. As they learn more about the case, their different styles will be put to the test.
The tenth season of Shetland looks like it will be full of more exciting crime and drama set in the beautiful but dangerous Isles. Stay tuned for more news as the premiere date gets closer!
