Silo Season 1: Who is Gloria Hildebrandt?
Sophie Thompson portrays Gloria Hildebrandt, a reproductive counselor at the Silo who joined the staff after experiencing infertility. She lives in the Silo and is currently receiving long-term care in the hospital. Gloria has dementia and hallucinations. Gloria’s name is addressed in the narrative when Juliette, the main character, finds it scribbled in a magazine and understands that Holston had concealed a reference to Gloria in a file of Sheriff’s Department interview records. To learn more about Gloria and their connections to other characters, Juliette decides to pay her a visit to the hospital’s medical ward.
Gloria confesses that she is a member of the Flamekeepers, a group of people who have artifacts from the past and work to remember the world outside the Silo when they first meet. She reveals that by adding something to the water, the Silo officials have been erasing the Flamekeepers’ memories. By interfering with Flamekeepers’ reproductive systems, they also prevent them from getting pregnant.
Gloria reveals that Dr. Pete Nichols (Iain Glen), Juliette’s father, assisted in the procedure that prevented Juliette from becoming pregnant. Juliette is shocked by this information, and she confronts her father about his behavior. Robert Sims (Common), who is keeping an eye on Silo via cameras, notices Juliette take Gloria to her apartment and grows alarmed.
Gloria explains that she handed the magazine to Ann, who was acquainted with Juliette’s mother before she committed suicide, and who is the mother of George. The story becomes more complex as a result of this information. After realizing that cameras are being hidden behind the mirrors in the Silo, Juliette takes George’s hard drive out of a vent in Gloria’s flat.
Sims sends security to Gloria’s apartment as the episode comes to a close, and Juliette makes plans to deliver the hard drive to Martha for examination. Sims is determined to learn what she found in Gloria’s room as Juliette takes over as the temporary final Flamekeeper. Overall, Gloria Hildebrandt is key in revealing the connections between the individuals’ pasts and Silo’s mysteries.
