Somebody Somewhere is an American comedy-drama television series developed by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen and starring Bridget Everett. On January 16, 2022, HBO broadcasted the first episode. The series got revived for a second season in February 2022. The series is set in Manhattan, Kansas, and follows Sam as she goes through a midlife crisis following the death of her sister. Fred Rococo (Murray Hill) is shown laboring in the field with his students as the sixth episode of Somebody Somewhere begins. Sam (Bridget Everett) works next to Joel (Jeff Hiller), who leans over and says he’s in the mood to be naughty, so he suggests lunch at Freddie’s for milkshakes. Am suggests eating with Michael (Jon Hudson Odom), but Joel informs them that they had broken up the night before. He says that he is well and that they were just in different areas at the time. Sam agrees to accompany Freddie to Freddie’s, but Monica interrupts them before they can go. She summons Sam to a meeting room for a performance evaluation. Sam is taken aback when she learns she is in the top ten percentile and has been performing exceptionally well. Monica claims that she can stay in testing for three years, keep her numbers up, and become a team leader. Joann (Christine Bunuan) had to tell him to quiet down because he can be heard by others. He tells her to get out of there.
Sam assures him that it will be enjoyable and that she will text him after her mother’s event. Sam meets with Ed (Mike Hagerty), who inquires about her difficulty in leaving work early. She didn’t do it. While Irma (Meighan Gerachis) talks to Monica nearby, Joel gets something from the vending machine. He notices Michael and the others seated, but chooses to sit alone. The therapist (Tim Mason) feeds everyone a homemade caramel before the therapy session with Mary Jo (Jane Brody) begins. The therapist tries to persuade Ed to express how he feels about being here, but he doesn’t believe it matters. Tricia claims she is numb and doesn’t feel much of anything. Mary laughs and also refers to her as the dramatic one. Tricia, enraged, confesses that she used to dread coming home from school because she never knew what she’d find. When Sam and Tricia realize that their mother told the therapist nothing about Holly, they are furious. Mary compares herself to her mother, who was apparently far worse, while they yell at her. Before leaving the room, Mary cries that they shouldn’t blame her for anything that has happened in their life. Joel returns to laughing after checking on Todd. When Joel tells Sam about it later, they both laugh and admit that this is why he needs her at work with him. Meanwhile, Fred advises Ed on how to produce cover crops in a specific region. Although Ed believes it’s difficult to think about the future when you’re clinging to the present, he insists it’s something to consider for the future.
Ed apologises for leaving early the day before for family reasons. Ed admits that he hasn’t always prioritized his family. When Fred discovers that Mary Jo is in recovery for her drinking, he admits that it is difficult for them both. When Michael walks by, Joel sits in his car eating chips and attempts to hide. Michael approaches the scene to see what is going on. Joel acts as though he needed to get a chip that he had dropped on the floor. Michael wants to return some of his belongings to him. Michael realizes that getting it into Joel’s car is difficult for Joel, especially since Sam quit her job. The charity claims that the insults aren’t going to benefit her, despite Tricia’s claims to the contrary. Before we return to Tricia’s store, they wish us a Merry Christmas. Charity is reminded by Tricia that she used to be her best friend and that she doesn’t have many pals. Sam then sits down to compose her 5-year plan when she comes across one of her old journals. She finds something that lifts her spirits after a few foolish tunes. The title of Holly’s Song is written at the top of the page, with a few lines crossed off.
Sam goes out to the garage and discovers a CD with her singing demos. She grabs her boombox and heads to the graveyard to pay her respects to Holly. When she arrives, she notices that the headstone, save from a small plastic one, is missing and that the grass has withered. She takes a seat and apologizes to Holly for not being able to play these for her because she knows how much she wanted to hear them. Sam is now going to perform them for her. She convinces Holly that she is entitled to more. As she walks out of the graveyard, she apologizes. Sam goes to rehab to persuade Mary to leave because she is wasting her time and money there. Sam claims that her mother isn’t even attempting to help her, while Mary insists that she is. She lashes out at her mother for failing to inform the therapist about Holly and failing to pay for her gravestone. Mary claims she is unable to speak about her because it is too difficult. Sam assures her that it is difficult for them all. Her mother admits that she sits here thinking about how she screwed up with all of her daughters. Sam reminds her of how she used to sing to her children to make them feel better when they were angry. As the show comes to a close, she sings to her mother.
