The crew is going through training in episode 17 when something in the distance bursts. They discover infrastructure engulfed in flames. A big oil tank appears to have burst. Nina, a fresh trainee, assists a woman in escaping danger. Deacon and his wife meet with a prisoner with the surname Ortiz, whom they feel is innocent of the murder of Maria. Deacon is summoned to the scene of the explosion. Deacon and Street discover a bomb-like device near the oil explosion. They have a conversation with Hondo and Hicks. It’s team time! A group opposing oil drilling and other activities sparked this. Deacon is halted. Ed, a detective, has come to ask Deacon to abandon the Ortiz case. Deacon thinks the case merits a re-ex. The crew searches for witnesses to the explosion. a councilwoman enters She’s enraged that her neighborhoods aren’t protected. A good strategy, Hondo assures them. Hicks later talks to Nina. She shouldn’t have run off to save her. It was risky. Nina sneers at him. He cautions her.
The crew departs to apprehend its targets. They are successful in obtaining them. One of the men claims to be innocent. He’s working on a film. He is campaigning for the abolition of oil wells and drilling, but he is not responding to this. Maria’s affair with Scott, whose wife filed for divorce and subsequently got a restraining order, is discovered by Deacon’s wife. Hondo and Hicks update the councilwoman. Hondo talks to her about her district’s lack of safety measures. Tan and Chris find a licence plate in the documentary maker’s recordings. Street tells Deacon and Dom about Nina.
