SWAT Season 5 Episode 20 Recap
Street is set up on a double date by Luca, but he isn’t quite on board. But Luca refuses to accept it. Chris informs Hondo that Mama Pina is in the hospital and allows her to pay her a visit. Two kids break into a house to “have a look around,” and discover a gun. The girl discovers a rifle and begins shooting at police officers. Cabrera, an academy recruit, joins S.W.A.T. and is assigned to 20-Squad for the day. When 20-Squad arrives on the scene, the guy tries to persuade his friend to quit. He surrenders by going out with his hands up. Street and Tan are successful in capturing the girl, and Street discovers a room full of weaponry. The house’s owner is an illicit armaments dealer. A case is empty, and a money bag is strewn on the floor. A car pursuit ensues after Street and Tan spot the house’s owner in his red pickup truck.
After stopping the automobile with Black Betty, they take him into arrest. Because of the guns he sold, the man could be linked to multiple shootings, and he says something “huge” is going on. He’s willing to talk if he’s given complete immunity. Cabrera is thinking about the call back at HQ, telling Deacon that in her 10 years as a cop, she’s only had to draw her weapon twice. Deacon provides her with some sound advice. Street and Luca work together to locate the truck, and Luca informs him about their double date. He swears the girl he’s introducing Street to is his “ideal match.” Chris goes to the hospital to see Mama Pina, but things aren’t looking good. She tells Chris that physicians can’t help her any more. Chris offers to assist in any way possible. Mama Pina requests that Chris establish a safe haven for all of the women. Luca and Street track down the vehicle’s owner, but he doesn’t appear to be the buyer, so they hope he knows someone who is. Elliot is tracked down by 20-Squad, and Cabrera shoots him. The crew inquires about the remaining guns, but he refuses to cooperate. Cabrera comes upon a photo of Elliot’s nephew, Tom, who was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department a few years ago. Hicks believes he was the one who made the agreement in the video.
Cabrera appears to be in good spirits at HQ, but Deacon has a feeling something is up with her. Tan tells Street about the date, pleased to be back in the game, but Street quickly returns the conversation to the case. The crew follows burner cell signals to a gated enclave where the California Governor’s mother resides. Before 20-Squad arrives in a chopper, Tom and his crew shoot two security officers and almost douse the governor in gasoline. The men strengthen the home and round the governor and her mother. 20-Squad methodically searches the booby-trapped mansion for the governor, but Tom enters a room and threatens her with “listening to the music.” Tom is apprehended by Hondo, Deacon, and Cabrera, who also apprehend the other suspects. Luca arranges for a weekend sailing excursion, but Street declines. He tells Street that he has known about his emotions for Chris for a long time and was only waiting for him to confess. It’s complicated, Street says, but Luca instructs him to figure it out. He’ll be sorry if he doesn’t.
Chris returns to HQ and updates Hondo on Mama Pina. Hondo offers assistance, but Chris believes it is insufficient because Mama Pina gives women hope. Chris says that she’s been considering her future steps and what she wants to accomplish with her life. Taking over the safe house could be the change she’s been seeking for; despite her affection for S.W.A.T., Hondo assures her that she’s the ideal person for the job, but she’ll leave a legacy. Cabrera talks to Deacon about suppressing feelings and how Dr. Wendy is always accessible if she needs to chat. He has, however, discovered something else that aids him. He takes her to see the priest at his church. Chris discusses taking over the safehouse with Street, who reveals that she’s been restless for months. Street says he wants to work things out with her, but Chris says she doesn’t believe it’s meant to be. He attempts to persuade her not to love him, but she refuses.
