SWAT Season 5 Episode 4 Recap

After reports of gunfire, Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson) and Jim Street (Alex Russell) arrive. Jim and Luca find a man with a gun inside, but not the one they seek. The man they arrest claims he saw the robbery alert on Sentinel and came to help. The return of  Hondo (Shemar Moore) and Deacon (Jay Harrington) raises concerns about Rodrigo Sanchez (David DeSantos). Meanwhile, Jim returns to HQ to learn of his mother’s death. It looks like a drug overdose. They offer help and talk, but he wants to stay with the team. Everyone knows his mother-son relationship was a mess. SWAT interviews the man they arrested, claiming he was a vigilante and may have killed his neighbor. Sanchez says they must improve before robberies become homicides. Hicks and Victor Tan (David Lim) prove the neighbor is correct about Tomas Hernandez. On the Sentinel app, Tan tells Hicks that Vince Jones (Michael B Silver) just put money down on their suspect. Jim Street is found in the locker by Christina Alonso (Lina Esco). In the kitchen, Sanchez and Hondo discuss Street, suggesting Sanchez take a few days off.

Hondo offers burgers but refuses. Chris and Tan approach Miquel, seeking one of his associates, Tomas Hernandez. Vince Jones tells Deacon and Luca he’s getting tonnes of tips on Sentinel. He says they help the cops. He agrees to send over 900 files of data. Chris sees Fowler. She explains that females are more likely to injure themselves on non-SWAT tests; Chris offers to look into it. Chris tells Deacon what Fowler said. Tan informs Deacon. An address for Danny is shown on the Sentinel app, not far from Danny’s home. People with phones are recording everything, even arguing over who spotted SWAT first. SWAT spreads out to conquer. They arrest the man inside, Hondo is enraged at Sanchez for getting it wrong!

Luca and Deacon return to HQ, worried that the man they gassed is a third-grader. Tan shows Danny Hernandez is also in debt as Hicks tries to connect the two men. Hondo finds Street in the bathroom, offering his condolences. Jim retaliates, saying Hondo preaches all day about family. Listening, Sanchez orders Hondo to leave Street alone. Victoria Mejia comes to HQ with her daughter to ask about Hondo and Tan’s relationship. She is unaware of the robberies but explains that Tomas is her ex and the father of her daughter, and he is the one who sends her money to help pay for her medicine. Because they robbed the pharmacy and Serena to get the insulin, Street explains to Hicks that Serena is a diabetic. The three robbers rob a pharmaceutical delivery van, but SWAT arrives and arrests one of the robbers, Tan and Luca pursue the other two but have to stop.

SWAT enters the warehouse, telling workers to exit as they walk down the aisles. Deacon taps Chris on the shoulder and orders his team to spread out. Deacon can leap and arrest Tomas, while Hondo, Luca, and Tan team-up. Sanchez tells Street to get ready while Hondo tries to explain to Danny how he can legally care for his daughter. Ignoring Street’s instructions, Hondo takes two steps to his left. Sanchez tells Hondo to stop talking to the hostage Mitch (Oscar Pena), who has a young daughter, and both want to go home. Danny relinquishes the gun. Hondo does it as Sanchez rushes in and arrests him, but gives Hondo a dirty look. Back at HQ, Street is tired and wants to relax, but he thanks Hondo and shakes his hand. Chris finds Fowler in the locker room and says Deacon is changing the program because other women are resubmitting once she heals.

Tan says they should give the bounty to Victoria Mejia who helped them catch the robbers so she can use it to pay for her daughter’s insulin. Chris is at Street’s door. He invites her in, saying Luca met Deacon for beers. Chris admits she felt the same way when her mother died and a weight was lifted off her shoulders when she went away. They share a bond. Hondo walks into Hicks’ office and is asked if he disobeyed a direct order from a commander, which enrages Sanchez. Hondo tells Hicks Sanchez is out to get him. Hispanic man Hondo kills a black man for calling out white cops. They can send a dozen more like him, Hicks says, but Sanchez tells Hicks to have some dignity and walk away first, or follow every order he gives him to the letter.
