Terror Tuesday: Extreme Episode 4 Recap
Once at a party, Nat is found lying on his stomach with his head submerged in a pool of water. Screaming with concern Dao jumps in the water swimming pool and for a moment she thinks that Nat might be dead by drowning when it is actually not true. The two get to the side of the pool and touch each other with the stories of their background pains and losses. Eight years later, Nat and Dao are at a temple shrine where Dao offers prayers daily; they are seen sitting outside the shrine. She feels that Nat is astringent with something, but he does not disclose the information. Moreover, Nat has been recruited as a project architect in a firm in Sweden, something he does not wish Dao knew fearing that she will call off their being together forever.
When they are going to the temple to offer prayers, they hear the story of the Black Hills Goddess that is associated with secrets that spurned lovers do not share. They worship at the temple, and unbeknownst to them, the Goddess jumps onto and takes over their love and the rot at the center of it. Later that night, Nat gets haunted by the appearance of an unknown person spying on him and Dao as they try to lie down to sleep at the Black Hills Resort. After that, the figure shows herself as Black Hills Goddess and demands from Nat and Dao to open each other’s secrets they are hiding or they will be punished for it.
After ensuring that is safe to do so, the Goddess puts pressure on Nat to tell Dao the truth about his job claiming to be an architect for a Swedish firm and Dao gets heartbroken. But it is also proven that the young woman has been having some secrets which have not been disclosed to Nat. The Goddess then forces her to show them, and there are several issues of their relationship that come into view, like her lack of consummate affection towards him recently. Dao wishes to get married to provoke the love they once had, thinking that it would be worse if he were to vanish from her life in any way than to live an unfulfilled life together somehow. As they uncover more and more of the relationship’s black, they begin to wind into a really dangerous area where it looks like their relationship won’t be able to be reconstructed again.
The story behind the Black Hills Goddess is the supernatural part of the story of this episode and the primary mystic objects. As the legend has it, the Goddess used to be a mere mortal, who happened to fall for a prince. Given that the main characters belonged to different classes, there were lots of hurdles to the lovers enjoying the support of those around them. When she saw this, she was afraid and disappointed and therefore she took her own life. But only much later is it disclosed that the man whom the Goddess has fallen in like with was a betrothed man At this indignation and having been deceived by him in every possible way, she turned her anger on him and tore him to pieces, invoking a rain that raked his skin and popped his flesh like an overripe fruit. So, for her, in commemoration of her legend, all women who invoke the Goddess should never keep anything secret from their lovers.
When the Black Hills Goddess goes to visit Nat and Dao her main objective is to make them see what they are doing wrong in their relationship and the depths that they are willing to sink to in order not to admit that they were wrong for one another. At the temple Nat claimed a fortune slip he read, ‘There will be no more existence of connection between the two of you if the two of you continue to tell lie to each other.’ But she did not know about the job in Sweden, which he had been hiding from her all this time and so despite the warning, he turned a blind eye out of sheer fear and insecurity. The only time that the two are able to have an honest conversation and stop concealing their emotions is when the Goddess joins their path.
While her methods might appear rather cruel she seeks to transform her subjects’ lives for the better by making them feel the terror necessary to alter their behavior. It is not the kindest path, but it works. She learned this the hard way through a deceitful relationship herself and is adamant that those who come in their stead should not repeat the same mistake again. Each time Nat and Dao seem to try to flee from reality, they take refuge in the rain, and she punishes them with stinging bursts that were once employed by the boy who pierced her beloved’s heart in the heart of the tale. Therefore, they are forced to confess and prevent themselves from becoming the main enemy of their own relationship as the couple is near to shattering.
Terror Tuesday: Extreme Episode 4: Ending, Explained!
Although the whole story presents the reader with an impression that Nat is the one who is not being truthful in his relationship with Dao, it’s painted picture quite effectively that the two of them are equally guilty of concealing things from each other. In a way, they are both criminals – both are motivated by the self. Nat is eager to go abroad, which he has had as a desire for quite some time. However, due to his love life with Dao, he has compromised a few times. At the same time, Dao herself is very ‘selfish’ in taking care to have Nat to herself. In many cases, she has arranged circumstances in which he has no option but to be around her most of the time. In fact, even her father appears to wish for Nat not to go back home for a while even though he has sought a job in Sweden.
Dao has always been interrupting her abroad plans, so Nat harbors a lot of anger towards her. He has masked it with tolerance and empathy, he is genuinely frustrated that wherever he is and whatever he is doing, she interferes with it. Likewise, Dao believes that, Nat is far away from her all the time and never say what he believes in, which gives her a constant worry of his thoughts. She believes that he’ll throw him out any day and now this pathological fear has made her try and fix him down by any means possible even if she is praying to the Goddess. It shows that she has paranoia and anxiety about their relationship, which led her to some regrettable behaviours.
At the final stage of the story, however, both the protagonists blow out all the venom they wished to say to one another. Nat even hugs her at the edge of the pool, sobbing at the things that they have been containing in their chest. In any case, from the collision of night’s events it seems they wake up and accept each other more deeply, whether it is scary or not – they do get along, it appears. In the last scenes of the film, one sees Nat bringing the offer letter of the Swedish firm, to Dao and the audiences can see that he trusts her more than at the beginning of the movie. Therefore the Goddess ceases to plague them, for her purpose of reuniting the two of them where they can give free rein to the genuine affection they bear each other has been accomplished.
