The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 14: Siya’s Mother’s Past

The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 13 Recap

In this episode, the story unfolds with flashbacks to 1998, where Meera Malik is seen working with MI6 agent Nigel Sutton. Nigel is in debt to Chechen gangsters and asks Meera for help in obtaining $100,000 to pay them off. He threatens to expose her secrets if she doesn’t comply.

Currently, Siya Malik  (Anya Banerjee) is on the job for Harold Cooper and is staking out a building. Herbie gets in the car with her and advises her to talk to Red about her mom. Siya is hesitant to ask Red for anything because Ressler warned her not to. Siya does a stakeout of Red’s building and promptly passes out. Red wakes up Siya with juice when she discovers her sleeping in the car. They talk about her mom and the value of love when he invites her inside. Siya says that Agent Zuma told her that Red knew her mother’s history. Red rouses her and tells her about Manolete, emphasizing the importance of honoring one’s parents’ legacy.

Siya Malik (Anya Banerjee), who just found out she was adopted, is trying to learn more about her birth mother. We find that Meera Malik (Nikita Tewani), Siya’s biological mother, is a young CIA agent in debt to Chechen gangsters due to her boyfriend, MI-6 Agent Nigel Sutton (Harry Hadden-Paton). Threatening to reveal Meera’s private information, Sutton blackmails her into paying up. Meera, in a desperate attempt to get by, steals money from the CIA’s evidence vault, only to be given orders to go and get more. On their next assignment together, Meera and Nigel are tragically killed. Meera is not going to assist him. Sutton and her secrets both perish as she is unable to save him during a risky operation. When Siya inquires about Red’s mother, he initially encourages her to remember the affection she got. But Siya still has questions.

After Captain Lewis Nolan’s death in the Charge of the Light Brigade, Red flies Siya and himself to Scotland in a private jet to recover his sword. Red then meets up with a man named Heinrich Wittelsbach in Zurich, Switzerland, and steals a tiny packet from him.

Red holds a garage sale to unload the precious antiques he has amassed over the years. The horns of the Miura bull Islero, a Betsy Ross flag, an Imhotep tomb gaming board, the original papyri of Sappho’s Tithonus poem, an antique Tiffany lamp, Captain Louis Edward Nolan’s sword, the soccer ball off which Pele scored the first goal in the 1970 World Cup, and the Sicilian Error of Color stamp are among the items up for auction.

Once again at the antique sale, Red bargains down the price of a valuable lamp and sells it to a woman who truly values it. In the meantime, Red meets a potential customer for the Sicilian Error of Color Stamp at the garage sale. He has a meeting with art appraiser Cynthia Mallet, who has brought him the pieces he requested. As a mark of his gratitude, Red offers her one of the relics.  Red offers her $2,000 for the Sicilian Error of Color stamp, which she shows Red a picture of her late husband Nigel Sutton and Red is shocked to recognize him. Red planned the meeting ahead of time.

Cooper and Agnes pay Red a visit at the auction, and Agnes ends up with the ball Pele scored in the 1958 World Cup. Cooper wonders why Red is giving away his valuables, and Red says he’s simply messing around.  Herbie tells Siya that there are priceless treasures at Red’s garage sale. Cynthia Mallet has sent a woman to buy the Sicilian Error of Color stamp. She reveals her late husband’s identity to Red by showing him a picture of him.

Herbie, a series regular, shows up to a show in downtown New York to cheer on his wife’s punk band, while Congressman Arthur Hudson (Toby Leonard Moore) continues his quest for the truth about the Task Force. He makes an appointment to talk to Senator Dorf about it. But at last, he agrees. Red sends Siya a check ($2000) made out to her from Sutton’s widow, leaving the impression that the money could conceal secrets about her mother’s background.
