The Bondsman Episode 8 Recap: In THE BONDSMAN’s dark and twisty world, a man makes a terrible choice that puts him in a dangerous battle between good and evil. This supernatural thriller was created by Grainger David. It’s about a broke-down musician named Hub Halloran (Kevin Bacon) who wakes up from the dead and finds that he owes the Devil money. Hub is put in a dangerous game where every move costs something because he has to find rogue demons that got out of hell. He has to find out about a bad plan with his tough mother Kitty that affects not only his own soul but also the fate of the whole world. As Hub starts to learn more about his past, he is forced to face his worst sins and the horrifying results of them.
“The Bondsman” Season 1 Plot
At the start of the show, hitmen hired by Hub Halloran’s longtime enemy, Lucky Callahan (Damon Herriman), a former mobster who is now dating Hub’s ex-wife Maryanne (Jennifer Nettles), attack him. It’s a surprise when Hub wakes up after having his throat cut and being left for dead. His wounds have miraculously healed. As soon as he finds out the truth, he is sent back to earth by the Devil himself but with one condition: Hub must now be his enforcer and hunt down and kill demons who have escaped hell.
Hub goes on his first mission with Midge(Jolene Purdy), who is the Devil’s representative. On the way, he learns that five powerful demons are on the loose, each with ties to spirit, earth, water, air, and fire. Hub and Kitty (Beth Grant) look into it and find that these demons are working together to free the Shackled Seven, a group of fallen angels who are trapped in hell and want to do even more harm. With each demon he kills, Hub learns more horrifying truths. One of the most shocking is that his past sins, especially killing Cheryl Dawson, an innocent woman, may have doomed him from the start.
Hub has to make a terrible choice by the end of the season: he can either keep working for the Devil or make a new deal with Lilith, the Queen of Hell, who is even worse. Hub knows that he might never be free, no matter what he does, because his family is in danger and the war between heaven and hell is getting worse. Let’s break it down.
The Bondsman Episode 8 Recap
At the beginning of the episode, Hub tells his family that he killed Sheryl. It was a mistake, but Maryanne thinks it’s a terrible thing to do, especially since Hub went into Lucky’s bar that night mean to kill someone. She can’t get over this betrayal, so she leaves with her son Cade because she needs to get away from Hub’s crazy past.
Hub is lost and doesn’t know how to stop Lilith without his family’s help. To pass the time, he tries to pull down a tree stump in his backyard. Ali Khan then shows up and drops off Midge. Midge was killed by a demon in the last episode but is now back for no apparent reason. Midge forces Hub to act by telling him that if they don’t stop Lilith, everyone will go to hell forever, not just them. Because he knows how serious the situation is, Hub agrees to listen.
The Real Story of Lilith
Midge tells us that Lilith used to be God’s favorite because she had the most beautiful voice. But jealous angels tricked her into joining Satan’s rebellion, which got her sent to hell, a place where there is no music. For hundreds of years, she has tried to get away but has been caught and tortured by Lucifer. Now she wants to get away from his control and make Earth her own kingdom, where neither God nor Satan lives. If they stop her, they will send her back to the person who abused her, but if they let her go, she will change the world to suit her needs. This is a very bad moral choice.
Lilith’s Power
Lilith, who is still inside Sheryl’s body, goes to a nearby diner and is charmed by the music playing inside. The fact that she kills the men and makes the women her followers shows how strong and dangerous she has become.
Back at the Halloran house, Lucky shows up with the police, ready to arrest Hub. But Hub and Midge have already left. They are going into the woods to set up Lilith’s trap. They think that Maryanne and Kitty are helping Hub with his so-called “satanic” activities, so they arrest them. Officer Ruby tells Maryanne that she will be arrested if she doesn’t help her trick Hub into a trap. She has no choice but to agree, so she tells Hub to meet her at The Boxcar.
As the police are getting closer to Hub, they get some bad news: Sheryl has come back to life, proving what Hub said about demons being real.
The Final Battle: Hub’s Choice
As Hub and Midge get ready to fight Lilith, Midge tells Hub not to be afraid to strike when the time is right. But when Lilith finally shows up, she takes advantage of Hub’s guilt to give him a way out. If he lets her go, she promises to leave Sheryl unharmed. Torn between his duty and his past mistakes, Hub chooses to set Lilith free.
Lilith leaves Sheryl’s body and takes over a crow, which stands for death—as soon as he breaks the seal. Sheryl is now free, but she is still alive and scared. Hub is very happy that he is no longer bound by his supernatural agreement with Satan, even though he knows what will happen because of what he did. Midge is heartbroken, though, because she knows that Hub’s decision may have ended them all.
Lilith’s next move
Hub brings Sheryl back to The Boxcar and tells her that he is finally free. Her family is happy to see her again. Officer Ruby arrests him for crimes he is said to have done in the past, though, so his moment of peace hardly lasts. At the same time, Maryanne shuts herself off because she is still processing everything. She is dealing with the fact that her ex-husband may have saved Sheryl but also let out a much worse evil.
In a scary ending twist, Lilith kills Lucky while controlling Maryanne and becomes the center of attention at the bar. She hypnotizes the crowd with Maryanne’s beautiful voice and gives Hub a scary choice: either help her defeat Satan and make sure Maryanne lives, or fight her and risk losing Landry and everyone he loves.
She warns him that even though he is out of hell for now, Satan will punish him for betraying him. Hub’s face is still red from the last shot, making him feel scared and uncertain because he knows that his fight is far from over.
Hub’s fight isn’t over yet, that much is certain. He is at a crossroads between good and evil. What he does next will likely decide the fate of Landry and the whole world.
