The Bondsman, an upcoming horror-action series on Amazon Prime Video, promises to be a scary ride with a supernatural twist. Kevin Bacon plays an undead bounty hunter who is looking for souls who have escaped from Hell. The show has a creepy plot and a gritty, Southern Gothic look. But what makes The Bondsman even more interesting are the moody places where it was shot.
The setting is a big part of what makes the series so scary. From the empty, rustic streets of small towns to the creepy corners of the Appalachian South, the setting is everything. Are you interested in the places this supernatural thriller takes place? Let’s look at the places where The Bondsman was filmed and how they add to the supernatural feel of the show.
WHAT IS THE BONDSMAN ABOUT?
Kevin Bacon plays Fred Herbert in The Bondsman. Herbert is an ex-bounty hunter who dies too soon and is then brought back to life by an unknown force. He was given a second chance at life, but now he has to work for Hell to catch exiled demons who are roaming the earth. Fred has to find his way in a world where justice has a very different meaning than it did in the Bible because of his past sins and his painfully painful ex-wife (played by Jennifer Nettles).
The show balances elements of horror, action and dark humor—with a Southern Gothic atmosphere that feels grounded yet otherworldly. The moody locations are not just a backdrop; they are a character in themselves, enhancing the eerie and suspenseful nature of the series.

Most of The Bondsman was shot in Grantville, Georgia in April 2024. Other scenes were shot in Atlanta and other Georgia cities. These places have the right amount of creepy abandoned buildings, Southern charm, and rural decay, so they’re perfect for the show’s spooky style.
Grantville, Georgia – A Small Town Transformed
One of the main places where The Bondsman was filmed was Grantville, Georgia. This small town has a classic look that made it a great fit for Fred Herbert’s creepy world. A lot of filming took place in the downtown area of town, which includes Griffin Street, Main Street, LaGrange Street, and Church Street.
The production team turned the historic buildings in Grantville into a lonely, supernatural place. The abandoned streets, old storefronts, and rough exteriors of the town were given a scary look with dim lighting, worn-out signs and a style that was meant to look like it was falling apart on purpose.
Adam Citroni, the location manager, said that Grantville was picked because of its “authentic old historic nature,” which made it a great setting for the supernatural parts of the show. The production company paid $6,000 to film for three days and also paid local businesses for any problems that the filming caused. Some property owners even helped dress the sets, which added to the show’s realistic world-building.
Atlanta, Georgia – A Production Hub
A lot of The Bondsman was filmed in small towns, but Atlanta was very important to the production. A lot of indoor and urban scenes were filmed here, taking advantage of the city’s wide range of buildings and well-established studios.
Atlanta was a good choice for some supernatural and action-packed scenes because it has a lot of film infrastructure and can recreate different settings. The city made it easy for the production team to film because it had experienced crew members and ‘top-notch’ studios.
Manassas, Virginia
The Bondsman was filmed in rural Virginia, where showrunner Erik Oleson grew up. Many scenes, like Bacon’s character grinding a tree stump, come from Oleson’s childhood memories. The production recreated the rustic landscapes of his youth—horse pastures, weathered barns, and the relentless chore of maintaining land. One standout scene, where Bacon’s character grinds down an old tree stump, was pulled straight from Oleson’s memories.
“That stump-grinder moment is 100% my childhood,” he says. “I grew up fencing fields, cutting wood, and waiting for my mom to drive me 45 minutes just to see a friend.” The show’s authenticity comes from these details, blending Oleson’s past with the fictional world of demon hunters and second chances.
TRIVIA: BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE BONDSMAN
Security Breach on Set: The production had some problems, such as security breaches, which meant that safety rules had to be tightened.
Tom Hardy’s Unexpected Contribution: After a fight with a set construction company, actor Tom Hardy reportedly stepped in to help pay some crew members.
Realistic Set Transformations: To make Grantville feel more real, the production team redesigned some of it and added creepy details like—broken windows, old signs, and dimly lit storefronts.
Bacon’s Music Connection: Kevin Bacon’s real-life band with his brother Michael influenced his character’s musical backstory. Songs were co-written for the show. They have played music together for nearly 30 years.
Bacon’s Horror Connection: Kevin Bacon, who plays the lead, has a long history with horror movies. He is best known for his role in Friday the 13th (1980). In The Bondsman, he goes back to supernatural horror—which is a nod to his early work.
Inspired by Real Appalachia: Showrunner Erik Oleson added personal details from his childhood in Virginia’s Appalachian region to the show— making the rural setting seem more real.
No Direct Devil Appearance: Unlike most movies “The Bondsman” doesn’t show the devil. Instead, he gives orders through a fax machine from the 1980s, which adds a strange and unsettling touch.
The Bondsman brings to life a scary supernatural world with its haunted landscapes, small Southern towns, and spooky Appalachian vibes. The places where the show was filmed, especially Grantville and Atlanta, Georgia add to its gothic feel, making it a must-see for both horror and action fans.
We’re getting ready for the series to come out on Amazon Prime Video on April 3, 2025. Fans can look forward to a world where every dark alley, misty street, and shadowed building gives it more depth.
