The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 9 Recap
A group of prisoners plans a daring escape from police custody with help from someone outside of jail. Randall Grayle, who planned the breakout, has his sights set on a specific person: Leon Katz, who used to build super vaults for the very rich but is now in jail for tax evasion. Grayle wants to use Katz’s skills to steal a lot of money from a high-security vault.
Robyn McCall finds out that Grayle has come back to town and asks the CIA to keep an eye on him. Detective Dante wants to bring Grayle to justice for killing his friend Officer Jack Lowry, even though he let him get away before to save Mel’s life. But because Captain Watkins is worried about Dante’s personal connection, he gives the case to another detective and puts Dante on desk duty.
Even with the delay, Robyn and Mel are able to find Kassidy Forrester, one of Grayle’s helpers, but they get there too late to stop her from being arrested. It’s agreed that Dante will find out more about the heist in exchange for a plea deal. But Captain Watkins finds out that Dante talked to Kassidy without permission and moves him to a case of bribery to keep him away from the Grayle case.
Dante doesn’t give up and keeps after Grayle’s crew. Eventually, Kassidy tells him what time the heist happened. Robyn worries about Dante’s safety and job, so she comes up with a plan to steal the valuable necklace before Grayle’s heist and use it as a lure to catch him. But Grayle knows what they’re going to do and takes Helena Lowry, Officer Lowry’s widow, to help him get away.
Dante has to do what Grayle says because Helena’s life is in danger. However, Harry’s quick thought and Mel’s bravery help them stop Grayle’s plan to escape and catch him. Grayle is caught, and Dante is happy that justice has been done, even though he was shot but is okay thanks to a bulletproof vest.
At the same time, Harry gets a secret mission from the CIA that forces him to leave town quickly. He tells Mel before he leaves that he’s taking the job, which makes her worried but also happy for him. While taking a break at a summer house, Dee and Aunt Vi meet Monique, a teenage squatter who may be hurt by her mother’s medications. Despite Dee’s attempts to assist, Monique does not trust her mother’s motives, highlighting the harsh truth that some issues cannot be easily solved. For a long time, Harry and Mel have been waiting for Robyn and Dante to finally kiss. The show ends with that moment.
