What happened in The Gilded Age Season 2 Episode 3?

In the third episode, Carrie Coon’s flawless portrayal of Bertha Russell begins with her throwing a party to raise money for the Metropolitan Opera. A level of complexity was added by including Mrs. Winterton, Mr. McCallister’s fascinating guest, who highlighted the social nuances of the era. The show deftly combined Bertha’s inner turmoil with the difficulties presented by Turner/Winterton’s presence, laying the groundwork for conflicts and disclosures.

Turner/Winterton’s audacious intimation of a scandalous affair involving Bertha’s husband, George Russell, further upends her life. As Bertha struggles with the information and confronts George, the tension increases and their relationship drastically deteriorates. Agnes and Ada van Rhijn, in the meantime, arrange their luncheon and present their own goals and schemes in society.

We see the conflict between social classes, covert agendas, and the delicate dance between influence and power as the episode progresses. Characters must make moral decisions and put their alliances to the test in the harsh environment of Gilded Age New York.
