“The Girl in the Pool” starts with Tom (Freddie Prinze Jr.), a businessman celebrating his birthday. It seems like a normal day. He is contemplating his last encounter with Hannah, Tom’s mistress (Gabrielle Haugh), with whom he is having an affair. Things quickly go bad when Hannah ends up floating dead in the water.

When it is revealed that Alex, Tom’s son, played by Tyler Lawrence Gray, is the one who actually committed the murder, that is when the real twist takes place. Alex, who hadn’t been a big part of the story up until now, admits to the crime. He says that he saw his father having an affair and then hit Hannah with a baseball bat out of anger. After this new information comes out, the story shifts from Tom’s desperate attempts to hide the murder to the deeper family secrets and tensions that drove Alex to kill.

When Kristen (Monica Potter) and Rose (Brielle Barbusca) find Kevin tied up at the end of the movie, things reach a critical point. This leads to a confrontation where Kristen tells Rose about Tom’s affair. When Tom sees how bad things are, he decides to take the blame for his son. He tells the police that he killed the Girl and then gives up his life to protect Alex and keep the family’s good name.

At the end of the movie, the police take Tom away, giving viewers a complex picture of a man who, despite having many flaws, gives up his freedom to protect his family.
