WHO IS ABBY IN THE LAST OF US SEASON 2?

Abby is a key character introduced in Season 2 Episode 1. She is part of the Fireflies, a resistance group fighting the brutal military control in the post-pandemic world. But her mission is personal—her story begins with tragedy.

In the first season, Joel killed several members of the Fireflies, including a crucial figure in Abby’s life—her father. Abby’s father was the surgeon who was supposed to perform the operation on Ellie, which would have killed her in order to create a cure for the infection that has ravaged humanity. Joel, however, prevented the procedure, ultimately killing Abby’s father in the process. This event is the driving force behind Abby’s thirst for revenge.

In Season 2, when Abby and her group of young Fireflies are first seen—they are standing over the graves of their fallen friends—who were all killed by Joel. Right from the start, it’s clear that Abby is very sad and angry and she wants to punish Joel for what he did to her father and the Fireflies. She says with determination in the episode that she is going to find Joel and “kill him slowly.” This sets the stage for the tension that will drive Abby’s storyline in the next episodes.

Abby’s journey takes a dramatic turn when she seems to find the town of ‘Jackson’, where Joel and Ellie are hiding—at the end of Episode 1. She and Joel are already very angry with each other, and it’s clear that their paths will soon cross in a way that will change everything. Abby’s search for revenge isn’t just about one man; it’s also about how hard it is to stay moral in a world that constantly tests your ideas of what is right and wrong.

Season 2 will show how Abby’s character changes. She will likely have problems with her reasons for doing things—her sense of right—and wrong and her relationships with the people around her. The story of Abby will become one of the most interesting and emotional in The Last of Us games as we get to know her better.

Abby in The Last of Us game

Abby Anderson is a key character in The Last of Us Part II, voiced by Laura Bailey. Abby is a former Firefly soldier turned WLF (Washington Liberation Front) warrior. Abby’s story starts with a very personal reason: her father was the Firefly surgeon Jerry Anderson, and Joel Miller killed him at the end of The Last of Us when he saved Ellie. After many years, Abby finds Joel in Jackson, Wyoming, because she wants to get even with him. In a brutal scene early in Part II, she kills him in the end, which is what makes Ellie want to get revenge.

But then the game changes points of view, letting players live through Abby’s story. We learn about her tense relationships, especially with her ex-boyfriend Owen, her guilt over Joel’s death, and how her morals change as she goes through life. When Abby spares Ellie and chooses to protect Lev, a young Seraphite in need, it’s a big turning point. This is the start of Abby’s journey to change.

Abby’s presence creates a second story that looks at revenge, forgiveness and empathy. Even though she starts out as an enemy, the game gives her a human side, making players look at the cycle of violence from different points of view.
