THE LIFE LIST FILMING LOCATIONS (2025): WHERE WAS THE NETFLIX MOVIE FILMED?

People will love Netflix‘s new romantic comedy-drama The Life List because it’s a heartwarming story about finding yourself.  The movie is based on a book by Lori Nelson Spielman and stars Sofia Carson, Kyle Allen, and Connie Britton. It is directed by Adam Brooks.
Aside from the main character’s emotional journey, the movie also has a lot of beautiful scenery. It was shot in a number of beautiful places.  The production team carefully picked out beautiful settings that go with the story’s themes of loss, growth, and adventure.  Let’s look at the places where The Life List was filmed and see where this journey really happens.

 THE LIFE LIST STORYLINE

After her mother dies, Alex (Sofia Carson) is faced with an unexpected challenge: completing a list of things she wanted to do when she was a teenager.  Alex goes on a life-changing journey to rediscover her passions, heal old wounds, and find true love after her mother’s death.  Along the way, she meets Brad (Kyle Allen), a lawyer who is working on her mother’s will. The two of them get through this life-changing event together.  While Alex crosses each item off the list, she starts to see life in a new way. She realizes that our childhood dreams can hold the key to our true happiness.

WHERE WAS THE LIFE LIST FILMED?

New York City, Nyack, and some parts of New Jersey were the main places where The Life List was filmed.  Each location was carefully chosen to show an important part of Alex’s journey, combining the energy of the city with the nostalgia of the past.  The main filming began in March 2024 and was done by May 2024.
Let’s look more closely at the places that were important in making The Life List happen.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

New York City is at the center of The Life List. It is both the setting for Alex’s life-changing events and an important part of them.  The filmmakers chose well-known neighborhoods to improve the look and feel of the movie.

 1. Chinatown
The busy streets, traditional storefronts, and glowing lanterns in Chinatown make for a beautiful setting for many important scenes.  The place represents Alex’s inner struggles and times of self-discovery as she deals with the complicated parts of her life.
 2. Cortlandt Alley, Manhattan
Cortlandt Alley has been in a lot of movies because it looks great in movies.  This place, which is between Canal Street and Franklin Street, gives the movie a sense of nostalgia and grit.  The narrow, dark alleys are like a metaphor for Alex’s uncertain path.
 3. Washington Square Park
Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village, which stands for artistic and intellectual freedom, becomes an important place in Alex’s journey.  The lively atmosphere of street performers, chess players, and musicians goes well with how her views on life are changing.
 4. East Village & Lower East Side
Alex’s journey takes her through the Lower East Side and the East Village, where she thinks about the goals she had as a child.  The energy of these areas, which are known for having creative communities, is a big part of how she found her passion and purpose again.
5. Greenwich Village Comedy Club

Alex is at the Greenwich Village Comedy Club on MacDougal Street during a funny and touching part of the movie.  This small comedy club is the perfect place for her to get out of her comfort zone.

 NYACK, NEW YORK

A lot of the movie was shot in Nyack, New York, which is a small town on the Hudson River.  In line with the story of the book, the production team turned Nyack into a place that looks like Burlington, Vermont.
 1. Wasabi Restaurant (Purdy’s Restaurant in the Film)

In the movie, the Wasabi Restaurant in Nyack changed its name to Purdy’s Restaurant, which was one of the most talked-about changes.  People around Alex and how she talks to them depend on this cozy spot.
 2. Main Street, Nyack

Filming took place a lot on the town’s Main Street, which had cute storefronts and a small-town feel that was different from New York City’s busy atmosphere.  Alex’s journey takes her through these streets, where she meets people from her past and remembers goals from the past.
 3. Hudson River Waterfront
Several sad scenes were filmed along the Hudson River, which was used as a background to show Alex’s quiet moments of thought.  The calm setting of the river is very different from the chaos of city life, which supports the movie’s theme of growing as a person.

NEW JERSEY FILMING LOCATIONS

Aside from New York, some scenes were also shot in New Jersey, which gave some of Alex’s adventures a different setting.
 1. Montclair, New Jersey
The cute neighborhoods and old buildings in Montclair made for a cozy, nostalgic setting for several scenes.  The suburban feel of the town was important for scenes where Alex faces memories of her childhood dreams.
 2. Liberty State Park, Jersey City
Liberty State Park, which has stunning views of the New York City skyline, was used for a short but powerful scene.  This place gives Alex’s journey more depth and represents her change from dreaming about the past to dreaming about the future.
Not only does Netflix’s The Life List have an interesting plot, but it also takes viewers to some truly beautiful places that go along with the story.  From the busy streets of New York City to the peaceful towns of Nyack and Montclair, each place has an impact on Alex’s journey to change.
People who watch Alex live out her childhood dreams will also see some of the most beautiful and culturally significant places in the area.  When The Life List first comes out on Netflix, get ready to go on this emotional journey!
