The Platform 2 Explained: Who Are The Children and Are They Real or Hallucinations?

The story of THE PLATFORM 2 like that of its predecessor, takes place in a dystopian vertical jail with inmates living on various floors and a food platform that lowers from the top to the bottom. Although the harsh truth is that there is enough food for everyone if they just eat what they need, human nature—which is motivated by greed and survival instincts—shatters this notion. The restrictions have been significantly modified in the sequel, wherein inmates are only permitted to consume the food they specifically requested prior to being admitted. The story takes place in a different era of the jail. But new issues are brought up by the harsh enforcement of this harsh law.

Perempuán (Milena Smit), the protagonist of the tale, is attempting to endure the horrors of the pit together with the other inmates. She follows the strict rules at first, but she soon sees how cruel they are. Following a string of horrific incidents, she makes the decision to flee by following her cellmate’s plan, who informed her of the monthly reorganisation of cells using a sevoflurane gas that puts everyone to sleep. Perempuán intends to pretend to be dead in order to be taken out with the corpses. She awakens after the prison’s reset, and among the floating corpses she notices a child in cell number 333 — which is the lowest one. She puts her own life in danger at this point in order to save the infant.

Even though “THE PLATFORM 2″‘s events ultimately show that it is a precursor to the first film, its conclusion is left up for interpretation. While Perempuán disappears into nothingness, probably to meet her demise, the infant she saves appears to have a chance of surviving. One of the main mysteries of the movie is the children’s existence throughout, especially given their part in this harsh, merciless society.

Who Are The Kids? ARE THEY REAL OR JUST IMAGINATIONS?

THE PLATFORM 2 Ending Explained!

The children’s presence adds a level of mystery and meaning, especially in a place as violent as the Pit. At the base of the prison, Goreng meets a young girl in the first “The Platform” movie. Since no children were meant to be in the Pit, the existence of this child—dubbed the “message” raises concerns about the validity of the system’s regulations. But in “THE PLATFORM 2” kids appear to be more organised; in a sequence of unsettling sequences, kids play on a stone pyramid and compete to be at the top. When a youngster reaches the top, they are removed and put in cell 333.

These kids appear to serve as symbols for both the strict hierarchy inside the jail and the brutality of society. The pyramid represents the ascent through a hierarchical power structure in which only one can “win,” yet that “win” entails being lowered to the lowest point of the pit. The imagery of the pyramids represents how society and power structures function in real life — as individuals strive to rise to the top only to be met with unfavourable conditions.

THE PLATFORM 2 Ending Explained!

The crucial query is if these kids are real or just the prisoners’ hallucinations. After suffering serious injuries in the first movie, Goreng discovers a young girl at the bottom. There is space for interpretation given the mystery surrounding her existence. Was she really there, or was she just a fiction of his delusions? In “THE PLATFORM 2,” the evidence tends to support the veracity of the children. Among the bodies, Perempuán can clearly distinguish the youngster during the gas-induced reorganisation of the prison. This implies that children are not just hallucinations and are really put in the prison for a reason.

But why do they end up in the lowest levels, where it’s almost hard for them to survive? According to one interpretation, the kids stand in for the “innocence” of this terrible system, potentially providing the inmates with a means of atonement. The inmates may be able to atone for their transgressions if they save an innocent life, according to the prison’s twisted logic. In the movie, there is also a suggestion of the children serving as “replacements” for the deceased residents — suggesting that there is an ongoing cycle of misery in which fresh souls replace the ones who have passed away.

The presence of the children may also be explained by the undercurrent of religion. If one were to draw comparisons between religious literature and the Bible — for example — one could conclude that the children are born with their parents’ sins. In this case, their assignment to the harshest tiers of the prison can be considered a kind of discipline. The Pit itself might stand in for hell — where the kids are sent because of their parents’ transgressions.

In conclusion, the kids in “THE PLATFORM 2” appear to be real people rather than being hallucinations, yet their presence in the Pit serves as a metaphor for the brutality and corruption of society. For the adult convicts who come into contact with them, their placement in the lowest levels—where survival is practically impossible can be interpreted as either a form of punishment or a chance for redemption. In the end, their presence intensifies the prison’s sinister allegory, implying that even the defenceless are powerless to flee misery under this system.
