The highly awaited sequel to Netflix‘s dystopian thriller, THE PLATFORM 2 delves deeper into the horrors of the Pit — a harsh structure where people struggle to survive in the face of scarcity and harsh regulations. Zamiatin (Hovik Keuchkerian) and Perempuán (Clara Lago), two new people in the novel, are thrown into the mayhem of the Pit. The movie chronicles their terrifying experiences as they attempt to make sense of life inside the tower — which resembles a jail and is ruled by strict and cruel laws. SUMMARY OF THE PLATFORM 2
Zamiatin arrives in the Pit at the start of the film — having just about killed his family. He encounters Perempuán when he gets there, although it’s still unclear why she’s there. The 666 people who live in the Pit are subject to the harsh rule of the Anointed Ones, who are followers of “the Master,” who gave their lives to provide nourishment for the lower levels. Her plan, however, backfires when her body is sent to the Pit—the home of the dead—instead of being picked up.
Perempuán sustains several wounds as she falls to the bottom, hitting her head against the walls. When she descends to the bottom, she finds herself surrounded by a number of departed people, among them her previous cellmate Zamiatin. The Platform 2’s conclusion makes a strong hint that the dead live at the bottom. The notion that Perempuán has entered the hereafter is further supported by the presence of Trimagasi — who was slain in the first movie.
Perempuán meets Goreng — the main character from the first film. They recognise one another when they meet in the abyss and give each other an embrace, indicating a possible emotional connection from a previous life. It’s possible that Goreng was her previous partner — who sought her out in the Pit following a catastrophe involving her and his son. This deepens Perempuán’s emotional journey by illuminating her regret and shame for her previous deeds.
THE PLATFORM 2: IS PEREMPUÁN DEAD OR ALIVE?
It is evident at the conclusion of The Platform 2 that Perempuán has passed away. Despite being well-planned, her escape attempt ends with her falling into the abyss where the dead reside.
