The Resident Season 5 Episode 21 Recap
After breaking up with Leela, Devon crashes at Conrad’s apartment and says that they hadn’t talked about this potential problem in a long time. After that conversation, Devan couldn’t face Leela. He decided to spend the night at Conrad’s. The next morning, Devan arrived late as well. When he and the other ER doctors realised that Cade had resigned, they were taken aback. Conrad learns through Irving and Hundley that Cade has resigned, and they need Devon to fill up as an ER doctor. Conrad goes to say his goodbyes to Cade and ponder what may have been. Cade is walking out the door with Conrad, and she is watching him in the rearview mirror when a drive-by shooting occurs, and she receives numerous GSWs. Conrad transports her to the hospital once more. When the hospital goes into lockdown due to the shooter, Devon’s patient gets cleared for a lung transplant.
As they fight to save her, Conrad reveals that Cade was a whistleblower. Conrad discovers that before she fell out, Cade was attempting to tell him that she has the rare blood type RHnihl, and that they don’t have any blood for her. Jimmy, the podcast patient, is anti-vaxx, so he will not be able to receive the transplant. He refuses to be vaccinated. Leela comes in to help and is still a little shaken. Jessica has reservations about herself during surgery since her hands are trembling. They discover that Cade’s father has the same blood type as them and is set to arrive on the following flight from Seattle, but Billie fears that Cade may have banked her blood somewhere and investigates her previous hospital. During a press briefing on the shooting, Kit is confronted with questions about Jimmy Miller and his anti-vaxx stance. When Jimmy has another fit while podcasting live from his room, AJ and Devon rush to his help to assist him while his wife Lola freaked out. Jimmy acknowledges that he was vaccinated and that he wants those lungs as they treat him. Cade’s blood from AGen arrives, and they must warm it up because it is frozen too hard, causing the bags to leak and contaminating the blood.
Devon suggests using a blood replacement on Cade. They can do the transplant since Jimmy meets the criteria, but they can’t divulge that he’s been vaccinated, so people will believe they broke their policy. When Lola realizes the truth, she claims that Hipaa doesn’t apply to her, so she tells the truth that he’s been lying because she suffered a blood clot from COVID and their son got measles and pneumonia because of Jimmy. She has a series of immunizations and then tells the truth. Cade’s struggle with getting close to people after Nic is discussed by Conrad and Billie. Devan came up with the novel notion of using cow hemoglobin at that point. It’s what they did for men in battle overseas, and it’ll buy Cade some time until her father arrives. As a result, she was allowed to have surgery. It went well, and when she awoke in her hospital bed, Conrad was there for her. But it was too late to tell her father not to come because he did show up, and he brought an agenda with him. Jimmy, on the other hand, planned to inform his followers that his adulterous ex-wife lied about him. He was also planning on changing hospitals because he disliked AJ.
