The Rookie Season 4 Episode 17 Recap
Officer John Nolan was dispatched to an accident. When this woman crashed, she was impaled on her side, leaving an open wound. Riley was her name. She was married and has children. She was driving to them when she was involved in a car accident.. But as Nolan drew close, she wasn’t worried for her life or her automobile. She merely needed her husband to pick up the goods from the trunk. It was one of her last words before she passed out. Nolan was still with her at the moment of death. His wife had signed an organ donation card before her death. Riley’s organs were escorted by armed guards. Nolan stayed to see this one through, and while at the hospital, he met the organ recipients. One was a child. A girl. She came in with her father, pleased to finally get a heart. The girl has an unusual blood type. Riley’s untimely death saved countless lives. But someone envied others’ success. One man detested how far down his wife’s name was on the donor list, so he did something radical. He enslaved the hospital. On the hospital’s computers. He started by reorganizing. Doctors were obtaining the erroneous charts for select patients, including Harper. She came in for a prenatal checkup. But her doctor got a file on a prostate cancer patient. When the hacks got worse, the doctors and nurses were still trying to figure out why. He had locked them out of their laptops. A nurse instructed Harper to keep an eye on the boy in the bed next to hers.
Meanwhile, Nolan tried to reason with their captor. This person refused to let him and his colleagues leave the hospital. He stated he would let people die for his wife’s heart. His heart wasn’t as strong as the girls due to a preexisting ailment. She didn’t want to die. She refused to help the cops subdue her spouse. The wife refused to assist, and a patient died as a result of the doctors’ systems being locked. The hospital management gave in. They let Jonah’s wife have surgery. She was rushed into surgery. Someone tried to attack her as she passed. Because the attacker was the girl’s father, he was charged with attempted motherhood. He’ll probably die before his daughter has a second chance. Nolan remarked to Jonah and his wife. Before the procedure, authorities let the wife chat with the girl who should have gotten the heart.
This one chat persuaded the wife to give the girl the heart. More for the girl. I thought she should be able to go to college and even get married. And everyone knew it. Except for Jonah. Jonah won’t return the facility to the authorities. He believed he could still get his way. If not a wife’s heart, then at least money. But no. The LAPD found the hackers. So the hospital was back to normal. And as normal as possible. Harper’s roommate was an abducted child, and his “parents” were charged with kidnapping. But Officer Chen gave a deposition about her own kidnapping. She had to face some of her darkest fears, but it was worth it. A young girl got a heart.
