The Rookie Season 6 Episode 1 Recap
At the beginning of the show, Thorsen makes it through the shooting alive, which makes his coworkers very happy. They give him a standing ovation when he gets back to work. His return is short-lived, though, because Sergeant Wade Grey tells him he can’t go back to work until he gets clearance from a doctor.
Angela and Wesley are getting ready to leave the hospital with their new baby. They stop by to see Celina, who is very worried about Officer Thorsen’s health after what he went through recently.
But things get rough between Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford at the same time that Chen is studying for her detective test. He offers to help her prepare for the random questions by going on patrol with her to “chase outside-the-box calls.” Chen makes a big mistake at a crime scene, though, because her stress gets the best of her. Even though this setback happened, Chen is still motivated to win and asks off-duty officer Wesley for help on how to get a murder conviction.
During a stakeout, Chen tells Bradford that he has second thoughts about taking the detective test, which makes things very tense between them. Bradford tries to help her, but it doesn’t work out. Chen feels down and alone. Their relationship takes a further hit when Chen solves the murder case by herself, which makes things even tougher between them.
At the same time, John Nolan is having problems getting ready for his wedding at home. Throughout the show, Nolan comes very close to dying several times, including in a scary encounter with armed criminals and a car accident that was very close to killing him. Nolan is still set on breaking the “last-shift curse” and marrying Bailey Nune, even after these close calls.
As the show goes on, the LAPD officers get involved in a very important case involving Boyd, who is thought to be the mastermind behind a string of violent crimes. A man only known as “Glenn” leads a group of thieves who do a daring heist and take guns from a high-security government building. They quickly get away, and the team goes to work trying to find the people who did it. In the middle of a bank robbery, Nolan is called to the scene and is shot at by the thieves. As Nolan moves through the dangerous situation, trying to keep innocent people safe while also catching the crooks.
As the show goes on, we see what happened after the heist and how the team is trying to catch the thieves. As the show comes to a close, the team finds a clue about one of the thieves. Harper decides in an instant to shoot and kill the suspect, which saves the life of a hostage but takes away their chance to question him and get information. Even with this loss, the team is still determined to catch the other suspects. Boyd, one of the robbery suspects, is shot in the head while being transported near the end of the episode. His fate is unknown, and the next part in this exciting series begins.
During all of this chaos, Thorsen shows Nolan and Nune appreciation by bringing them to his family’s spiritual oasis as an act of thanks for saving his life. The meeting between Thorsen and his new psychiatrist, Dr. London, gives him hope for a fresh start as he tries to get over his past problems and go back to work with a renewed sense of purpose.
