In order to safeguard their future, Diane de Poitiers banishes Filippa and her child and agrees to help Catherine conceive. When Catherine asks Ruggieri for assistance getting pregnant, he mentions a future cost that must be paid and gives her a book of potions.
While playing racquetball with Henry, his younger brother who is now more physically fit, the Dauphin Francois passes away abruptly from natural causes. But Sebastio is responsible for the Dauphin’s passing due to two things. One, just before the occasion, a bored Catherine requests that he bring the prince some wine. Sebastio’s studio contains Ruggeri’s book on poisonous mushrooms. Sebastio asks Catherine to advocate on his behalf, but she declines. The dressmaker is then torn apart by four horses, which was the typical medieval punishment for regicide. The price for Sebastio’s execution is Catherine getting pregnant. Her remaining followers worry about their security.
