THE SERPENT QUEEN SEASON 2 EPISODE 2 RECAP: SECOND COMING

This week’s exciting episode of THE SERPENT QUEEN picks up right where last week’s episode left off: a church full of people is set on fire, putting the life of King Charles of France in danger. But Charles is able to get away, and miraculously, everyone in the church seems to have made it out alive. No one knows how they did it, though.

Catherine de’ Medici, who is very angry when she learns that the Bourbons and Guises are responsible for the church fire. Because they tried to take Charles to church, she hits Louis and Antoine with a riding crop. When the Bourbons say that François, a Guise, burned down the church, things get more tense. Catherine is focused on keeping France together in the wake of the ongoing effects of the Protestant Reformation, even though she knows the Guises are guilty.

There are some funny moments with the royal siblings in this episode. Charles, played by Ray Panthaki, thinks about the time he almost died, while Elisabeth tries on a new dress and gets into a small argument with her sister Margot. The siblings’ teasing adds a funny touch, especially when Alex wears Elisabeth’s dress and gets compliments on it.

Catherine is busy working to keep a religious war from happening. She makes a trade deal with England for the Bourbons to keep them happy. Then she goes up to the Guises and tells them she will arrest François if they don’t pay for the building of the Palais des Tuileries in Paris. This move shows that Catherine is smart and determined to be in charge of politics.

Raza Jaffrey plays François, Duc de Guise, who is seen dealing with his own secrets. He finds letters from Antoinette that could be used against her and tries to burn them but fails. Later, he confronts and kills his soldier boyfriend, who sold the letters to betray him. François’s actions show how cruel he is and how complicated his personality is.

The character Diane de Poitiers, played by Ludivine Sagnier, comes back to the scene. Catherine asks her to help her take care of her kids and pay for the new palace. Diane agrees, but only if her daughters are allowed to inherit her estate. This goes against the Salic law that says women can’t inherit property.

The biggest surprise is when Montmorency finds that there are no bodies in the burned church, which makes it look like someone miraculously got away. Catherine is told that there may be survivors, which could mean trouble. François finds the pastor lady and the supposed church survivors at the end of the episode. They are planning to rise up against the monarchy in the name of God.
