The Wonder Years Season 1 Episode 17 Recap
Dean was getting set to hang out with his buddies at Norman’s place again, as he was the only one who could invite people over without any limits. Meanwhile, Kim was ecstatic about her new waitress job, and Lillian and Bill decided to show their support by dining at the diner later that evening. Kim had managed to acquire more black customers at the cafe by enlisting the help of her friends and spreading the word. Dean met Kim’s classmates and impressed them by mentally calculating the tip amount. So they went out and got him a milkshake and invited him to join them. Kim was getting ready to go to a birthday celebration at home when Kwame arrived to pick her up. Lillian and Bill were taken aback by this, and they confronted him to find out what his intentions were with their daughter. Kim, on the other hand, did all the talking and claimed they were just pals. Dean went back to the diner the next day, ostensibly to support his sister, but all he wanted to do was hang out with Kim’s pals.
Meanwhile, Kim had an altercation with Wendy, a senior waitress who didn’t like Kim’s attempt to overstep her authority and suggest a new menu to the supervisor. When Kim mentioned Wendy, Lillian sided with her, saying that anyone with seniority would feel intimidated if a new person began abusing their authority. Dean, on the other hand, was seated with Kim’s friend again, and his pals soon joined him. They did, however, force Dean to accompany them to the restroom in order to convince him that Kim’s friend Pam was attempting to obtain information from him. The next day, Pam strolled into the diner with Kwame and announced to everyone that he was her boyfriend. Dean and his pals were taken aback, and Kim was devastated to learn Kwame was dating Pam. Kim wasn’t just pals with Kwame, but he also wasn’t the kind of boy who could be trusted. Dean eventually recognized that by disclosing all of this knowledge to Pam, he had inadvertently harmed his sister. Kim, on the other hand, made an unexpected friend in Wendy, who related her story about falling for a guy like Kwame and becoming pregnant. Wendy and Kim eventually became friends, and Kim began working as a babysitter for Wendy.
