The Texas Ranger reboot’s second season titled “Something’s Missing” concludes with Cordell (Jared Padalecki) going back to a secret, dark period of his history.  It’s not the end of the story, though. The Jared Padalecki show has already been picked up for a third season, and the Walker: Independence prequel will join it. This episode was inspired by a Western prequel called Walker Independence, which will air alongside Walker on Thursdays in the autumn. Walker is sent down memory lane unintentionally after family enemy Gale Davidson (Paula Marshall) throws a bombshell on her daughter Geri (Odette Annable).

Walker and Captain Larry James almost survived an assassination attempt while looking for Cassie Perez’s missing partner Miles. Miles and Cassie had a surprising reunion after the two lawmen brought him back to Austin. Miles acknowledges faking his murder to pursue a secret probe that Captain James can’t discover in the Rangers’ archives. Miles is shocked to know that Cassie’s gun was used in the cover-up, increasing the pressure on her quest for him. Walker and James are skeptical after escaping a gunfight with criminals serving for Captain Fenton Cole, but they agree to keep Miles safe. Walker and Davidson’s families agree to a meal at Colton and Stella’s insistence to heal bridges for their children. Liam and Walker want to use the supper to compel a confession from the Davidsons after Dan Miller claims Denise Davidson ruined Walker’s horse in the competition for the Walker native lands. Their father Bonham warns them against this reckless move. The dinner starts peacefully, then Bonham and Gale Davidson argue, causing Bonham to walk out.

Walker and Geri Broussard pull him back, but the dispute immediately reignites. As Miles reunites with Rita, James arrests Cole, who tries to say what he was doing. Cole confesses he was compelled to kill Miles but falsified his death and hide him. Cole delivers a secret dose of poison to kill himself after his revelation, leading James to realize Miles is under threat. He moves him while calling Walker. Miles tells Cassie and Trey that he and Cole were researching people smugglers when they flipped on them. James gets at Cassie’s apartment in time to save her from smugglers’ gunmen, barely escaping unhurt. In the wake, Miles enters protective custody and reassures Cassie she’s been doing the right thing. Geri contacts Walker with her worries about Gale after the catastrophic dinner party. Walker has Geri meet with the ranch hand. Geri deduces Gale knew about her all along. Geri wonders why Davidson’s matriarch pulled her into this family fight.
