In “Hope Springs,” the 100th episode of “When Calls the Heart,” a number of important events take place in Hope Valley. In order to apparently assist with Elizabeth’s wedding preparations and spend time with young Jack, Elizabeth’s sister Julie and her aunt Agatha pay a visit back to the community. Their real goal is to convince Elizabeth to return to Hamilton, as her parents have already booked a church there for their wedding and managed to obtain Lucas a job at her father’s business. Elizabeth feels her family doesn’t grasp where she genuinely belongs and is irritated by their intrusion. Although Lucas initially seems to be considering the job offer, he finally underlines his dedication to Hope Valley by saying that it is where their home is.
In the meantime, it is clear that Faith (Andrea Brooks) and Nathan are at odds. They appear to have a troubled relationship, and it is made clear that something big transpired between them in the interim between seasons. Although Faith had formed a love for Nathan, she decided against dating him because of her responsibilities as both his doctor and patient. They have an uneasy chat about their past after Nathan makes the implication that Faith broke off their relationship. Later, Nathan saves Faith from a thief who initially seemed harmless, but their meetings continue to be uneasy. During a picnic, Florence tries to hook Nathan up with Faith, but things get amusingly complicated.
Additionally, the episode explores Henry Gowen’s ongoing legal problems. In connection with the mine explosion from a prior season, he is facing significant accusations. By demonstrating that Henry’s actions were driven by a concern for safety, Bill thinks he can help Henry. Henry unexpectedly enters a guilty plea, stating that he feels deeply terrible about the past incidents and deserves to be punished.
The episode also depicts Jack’s appreciation of the hot springs and his resistance to making them a tourist destination. Rosemary helps Lee obtain a large mill contract. Concerns regarding the cafe’s and the general store’s financial viability arise as a result of the town’s economic problems.
