Who Are Cargyll Twins?

The identical twin brothers Ser Arryk and Ser Erryk Cargyll are knights of King Viserys I Targaryen’s Kingsguard. The Cargyll twins are depicted as taking part in the tournament honouring Viserys’ accession at Maidenpool in 105 AC, when Criston dismounts both of them during the jousting contest. Ser Erryk acts as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen’s personal guardian in the novel Fire and Blood, and she is there on Dragonstone during the death of her father, King Viserys. They have both been featured in four episodes of House of the Dragon. But they play a significant role in episode 9. The ninth episode of House of the Dragon begins off right where the eighth episode left off. After experiencing excruciating anguish and leprosy, King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) died after gathering his family for one final time at the Red Keep. the twins cooperate to track down Aegon.

As is to be expected, the sense of opportunity that results from Otto, Alicent, and the little council carrying out Viserys’ purported wish and usurping the throne with Aegon II outweighs the pain that naturally follows. The only issue is that Aegon is nowhere to be found, so Otto asks Erryk and Arryk for assistance in finding him and bringing him home. Aemond, Alicent’s second son, and Ser Criston are also sent out to find Aegon II. Erryk speaks to his brother about Aegon’s many vices as the twin Kingsguards search for the chosen future king of the Greens. The brothers’ potential clash appears to have been sparked by their interaction. Erryk is seen toward the conclusion of Episode 9 attempting to assist Rhaenys in leaving King’s Landing before Aegon’s coronation because there is a possibility that she would be slain for refusing to kneel. Despite the fact that we don’t see him at the ceremony, this is consistent with how he develops in the novel, as Erryk sides with Rhaenyra and the blacks while Arryk supports the greens.

Do Arryk and Erryk Cargyll Survive in the Civil War?

Erryk ultimately decides to rebel and join the Blacks, the organization headed by Rhaenyra Targaryen, in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. When he secretly set Rhaenys free, that adventure officially began. In the end, he will travel to Dragonstone and enlist in Rhaenyra’s Queensguard, while Arryk remains in King’s Landing to assist Alicent and Aegon. As the Dance of the Dragons kicks up, the twins’ tale takes a terrible turn. In the end, Arryk is sent to Dragonstone to pretend to be his twin brother in order to learn more about Rhaenyra’s ambitions. Until Arryk and Erryk actually cross paths, the scheme is successful. They engage in a sword battle, each fatally wounded the other, and ultimately pass away in each other’s arms. It’s a heartbreaking conclusion for two brothers who cherished one another a great deal.
