Fans of Death in Paradise were looking forward to the Boxing Day special on BBC One. This will be followed by the 11th season of the detective drama, which will premiere in 2022. Fans were surprised to learn that fan-favorite Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) would be making a reappearance.
Danny John-Jules left Death in Paradise for a reason.
The escapist drama’s 11th season is in the works, and a slew of new regulars have been added to the cast. To mention a few, there’s Tamzin Outhwaite, Nicholas Bailey, Jason Done, Ben Onwuke, and Ben Starr.
The season 10 finale saw DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) open out to colleague Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert), so comedy and drama will be braided together once more.
Fans will find out what happens next in the upcoming Christmas special, as he was set to proclaim his love. Officer Dwayne Myers, a flamboyant character who returns to Saint Marie for the holiday episode, is another familiar face.
Following a seven-year run as the fan-favorite role, actor John-Jules quit the series in 2018. He expressed an interest in returning to his stage career at the time of his departure.
“I left Death in Paradise because I wanted to come back on stage,” the performer explained. “I needed a little more oomph in my life, and then Strictly came along!”
He competed in the 2018 season of Strictly Come Dancing, partnering with Amy Dowden, and was eliminated in the eighth week.

The holiday special will explore whether Neville and Florence can deal with the fallout from their unpleasant encounter. Neville may be struggling to keep his well-ordered life on track, and an unexpected visit from his sister, Izzy (Kate O’Flynn), throws another impediment in his way.
“A feature-length special to finish the jubilee celebrations, which stretches from a dark, damp and dreary London all the way to the sparkling beauty of beautiful Saint Marie,” according to the synopsis for the Christmas episode.
“A wealthy shipping magnate is discovered dead at a holiday gathering.” When a man in London receives a bizarre Christmas card linked to the victim’s murder, things get even stranger.”
What role Dwayne Myers will play in this is still unknown.
Guest performers Mathew Baynton, Juliet Stevenson, Jocelyn Jee Esien, Anthony Calf, and Stanley Townsend will feature in the 90-minute program.
“Dwayne Myers and his father are in London again working on the #DeathInParadiseChristmasSpecial,” the actor’s official Instagram account said in a video update.
“Expect explosions when ‘The Cat’ encounters a ‘Pork Pie.’ If you’re nice, I’ll even post the entire ‘Bacanal Of Joviality,’ also known as ‘The Full Video.’ #YoureWonderingNow”
Season 11 will premiere in the new year, following the Christmas special.
“When a skydiver dies, reportedly stabbed mid-flight, the case appears impossible to solve,” the BBC said of the new series.
“A golf course murder, a concert killer, and a puzzling case at a rehab facility all test the team’s unique abilities in season 11.” Florence, on the other hand, is faced with a difficult dilemma when the Commissioner asks her to go undercover to solve a drug trafficking case on another island.
Season 11 of Death in Paradise will premiere on January 7 on BBC One.
