George Jr. surprised Mandy by exchanging his Mustang for a family automobile for their child’s well-being. George’s thoughtfulness and humility move Mandy. Mandy joins the Coopers for dinner. George Jr. supports Mandy and apologizes for the family’s over-niceness and Sheldon’s awkward questions. George Sr responds to the phone at dinner. George Sr departs the dinner table when Principal Peterson calls about his friend Wayne. George Sr discovers Peterson at Wayne’s motel. Darlene, Wayne’s wife, cheated on him and is pregnant with his best friend’s child. George Sr fails to reassure him. George Sr takes him house as he can’t just leave him at the motel. Mandy thanks George Jr. for supper and says it was enjoyable to eat with his parents. She invites him to have ice cream with her, but he declines because he has work the next day. Sheldon watches TV the next day while Wayne sleeps. Sheldon hates change, so he tells Missy when he’s nervous. They confronted their parents about Wayne napping on their couch. They chastise Sheldon for asking to watch TV while Wayne sleeps. Peterson visits George and Mary and tells them about the game.
As Wayne’s coach, he asks if he’ll feel better by then. George and Mary are hesitant. Peterson asks George to coach with Wayne. George first resists Peterson’s proposal, but he eventually accepts. While transporting Wayne to work, George convinces him that going back to work is all he needs. He tries to motivate Wayne, but Wayne doesn’t listen. When Mandy and Meemaw go to the hospital for an usual pregnancy checkup, they find there is no health coverage information on file. Mandy observes Meemaw’s cash as she offers to pay the bills. Meemaw tells Mandy it’s from her washing and video shop enterprises and that she doesn’t trust in putting cash in the bank. Missy questions Wayne’s wife an awkward question in class, and she yells at him, presuming he told her. Mandy visits George Jr.’s job, where an inspector requests additional bribes. Meemaw lies to Mandy and instructs the officer to return later, but Mandy becomes dubious and demands the truth. They visit Mandy the gaming room and explain to her about the firm, and she’s happy because if George does well, their child can attend a private school.
George projects his own troubles onto the youngsters when he takes Wayne to inspire them for the game, affecting the debate. Wayne watches Star Trek with Missy and Sheldon. George and Mary debate how the trainer won’t be able to lead well in the upcoming match, then add it’s surprising how his marriage went down when it should’ve been theirs given how volatile it is. Wayne can’t coach the youngsters because he’s emotional. When he doesn’t, George coaches, attracting Peterson’s attention. Peterson tries to replace Wayne with George and offers him his former job. George demands that Wayne be allowed to work, so Peterson gives in and hires them both. Sheldon’s friend George Jr. brings pizza and invites him to dinner. Sheldon tells him he can’t since he’s examining his leaking ceiling. George tells Sheldon to enjoy dinner while he waits in his room. Mandy appreciates George for being lovely in Sheldon’s room. They chat, and she stays with George. Meemaw mocks Mandy.
